Warriors Men’s Indigenous Jersey 2022 – A must-have for Warriors fans. Developed in partnership PUMA, Te Tairawhiti based Ta Moko artist Maia Gibbs (Ngai Tamanuhiri. Rongowhakaata. Ngati Kahungungu. Henare Brooking. Te Amokura, our Indigenous jersey 2022, is a strong expression of our connection and unity. It will be worn against the Newcastle Knights in round 12 on Saturday 28 May to celebrate the NRL Indigenous Round. Te Amokura’s jersey derives its inspiration from the same manu (bird). The Amokura is widely known in Aotearoa, Australia, and the Pacific. The Amokura was instrumental in helping the great navigators to chart the largest body o water in the globe. It is best known for its two distinctive red elongated tail wings, which are highly prized and sought after by the chiefs of Te moana ni a Kiwa. These are represented by the two red stripes on the jersey’s rear. The colours not only represent the club’s identity and journey, but also the sacrifices made by staff and players to move away from home, family, and their fans. Blue represents mana maua. The Pacific ocean, which connects Aotearoa to Australia and Aotearoa. This ocean carries our collective whakapapa. Green stands for mana whenua. Aotearoa is the land which acknowledges Australia as the true home of the Warriors. Our Aboriginal whanaunga, and the original peoples of Australia who have welcomed the team in the past three seasons. Red represents mana tangata. The people are the link between players past, current, and future. As they move onto the field of battle, they weave the whakapapa each person’s individuality. The black symbolises Te Po, where learning and development are possible. While the white represents Te Ao which is a place for expression and action. The jersey acts as a korowai, a cloak that covers the wearer. It is not only a jersey, but also a symbol of the wearer’s journey. It is a celebration and representation of our cultural identity as well as the shared connection that we have with other indigenous peoples. This Jersey is an exact replica of the jersey worn by the Indigenous round participants.
